Dentsu Aegis Network Bulgaria to teach older people to cope with new technologies
23 October 2015, Sofia: Dentsu Aegis Network Bulgaria launches a local volunteering campaign to teach older people how to cope with new technologies. The social initiative is inspired by the Dentsu Aegis Network global awareness campaign #dancare for donating pro bono work and expertise to the communities we work and live in.
The campaign ‘Silver Surfers’ is starting on October 26 and will last for a month and a half, engaging 30% of DAN local office to donate their time by tuning themselves into teachers that will open the window for the older Bulgarian citizens understand the value of new technologies.
Each “DAN” teacher will have its separate class of up to fifteen dedicated students eager to understand how to work with their smartphones, browse in Internet environment, chat on Skype, post pictures in social networks or send e-mails through different mail providers.
The first groups are already formed and will start their classes during the next week.
Maria Grachnova, CEO of Dentsu Aegis Network Bulgaria, said: “35% of Bulgarian population is 55+ and only 38% of them are using Internet which places our country around the middle according to this criteria compared to CEE region. Growing our digital profile across all capabilities is one of DAN’s five strategic priorities, the final aim being 100% digital in 2018. DAN Bulgaria can push further the meeting of our own digital goal by teaching the representatives of 55+ generation to cope with the new technologies.”
“Many of the older people in the country are desperate to receive this kind of knowledge as this is the only way to stay connected with their kids abroad. Digital revolution has changed their world forever and they need to catch up with their kids’ reality if they want to stay in touch with them”, Asya Alexandrova, 26 y.o, the first one from the local office to volunteer for the initiative, added.
“Teach older people to cope with new technologies” campaign will be made in cooperation with “Znanie” Association who are providing the place and facilities for the “teachers” and their students. The initiative will be one of the local contributions to DAN’s Future Proof CSR programme.
